Taking a hiatus from AIM and IJ and kind of game stuff in general for a few days. If anyone needs me for something in-game, which I doubt, you know how to get ahold of me. |

| Discrimination? |
[Nov. 12, 2008|10:05 pm] |
(I apologize for the length and cut what I could.) ramdonomo made a post today. And even me, who loves LDS Church history, I wasn't quite sure what she was getting at. But I always like her posts. It wasn't til I got to the end that I realized she'd been referencing LDS Church history and summing a few things up... more or less.
I mean, she forgot a few things. And... what? You're asking me if what she posted actually happened? Why, yes, it did. (More or less. I think some names were changed.) ;)
Anyway, as I was saying, she left out a few things. She mentioned the tarring and feathering as an afterthought. But she didn't really mention the whole massacre thing on a small Mormon settlement and how a militiaman blew a hiding kid's head off. ramdonomo didn't mention the repeated attacks on small outlying Mormon settlements and houses where houses were pillaged and burned down, or how women were raped, women and children were terrorized, and families were killed. Or how in Far West, where all the Mormons gathered for safety and were supposed to negotiate a truce, the city was put under siege anyway and they were... you got it, robbed, raped, animals killed, you name it. And ramdonomo covered the rest with the whole murdering the prophet thing and being forced out of state again thing.
But I mean... that's all. Cause no, Mormons totally don't know what it's like to feel like the underdog, to experience any form of discrimination, or feel like our rights are being violated.
I mean, now, all we get are things like people harassing little girls on their way into church! And shattering glass in 7 chapels left for Sunday morning churchgoers to find, and people burning scripture on a church doorstep. Not to mention the hate signs left in fences on temple grounds, graffiti defacing walls on chapels and temples (seriously, people, what are you, 12?), disrespecting sacred buildings by standing on the outside walls, spray painting insults on Yes on 8 supporters' homes and keying their cars. Oh, I haven't even mentioned the Utah Boycott yet! (That one kinda makes me laugh -- if you want to boycott everything Utah or, as I heard, anything related to anyone LDS, good luck next week, Twilight fans. Also, good luck boycotting the Senate, seeing as how the Senate Majority Leader is LDS.)
Having said all that? It feels like a lot of people think Mormons voted for Prop. 8 for the "lulz." ...I mean, seriously? After reading all that, do you REALLY think we vote on stuff like Prop. 8 just for kicks? REALLY? Think about that one. Think about that one real hard.

| Misrepresenting ad |
[Nov. 5, 2008|9:29 pm] |
You all know I'm LDS. Mormon. Right? Right. If you didn't, now you do.
If you've heard about the anti-Proposition 8 commercial about LDS missionaries ransacking a same sex couples' home, or even seen it, I really, REALLY hope you don't believe it's real. I'd like to state, for the record, I hope you all know LDS missionaries would never do anything like how they're depicted in the ad. Watching that ad made me feel sick. (And I know my post might make people go look for the ad now... but I still had to say this.)
First of all, it's maybe supposed to be "symbolic" of invasion through TV sets or something? Whatever. It shows LDS missionaries as awful, rude, physically invasive, disturbing, mocking, and acting in ways I've never seen them act. Kthx no. I also hope you realize that any self-proclaimed, self-respecting Christian would never act like that either. The religious people they always show on the news that are holding up signs about how God hates gays or how gays are going to hell do not speak for all of us (yeah, I leave it up to God to judge, I'm not that presumptive). I don't believe those kinds of hate-filled protestors represent the majority of Christian faiths; in fact, I believe they're in the very small minority.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/2125039/posts
I'm pretty angry as I write this entry, but I stand by the comment made by the LDS church spokesman, as well as the Catholic bishop. I don't agree with a homosexual lifestyle, but I don't hate anyone. It's a tough subject. It's not that I'm trying to purposely discriminate or that I want anyone to be unhappy. We have different beliefs, but we can have mutual respect. I can agree to disagree and still be friends with people.
But if some people want tolerance and respect so much, maybe they should practice it themselves by not doing things like completely disrespecting my faith. (Edit: This is rhetorical and not meant to imply that anyone deserves to be punished or whatever just because of how a small group of them acted. I'm referring to the irony of the situation.) I love how the most "tolerant" people have no problem misrepresenting and stereotyping an entire religion. (Also, I'm getting tired of being called a bigot. Right now I could turn the term right back on those who made that ad.) I hope the anti-Prop. 8 people who made that ad realize that they just totally widened the gulf and alienated a whole bunch more Mormons as well as other Christians, and prevented them from having more sympathy or understanding for the gay marriage cause. Nice job, guys. Nice job.
I want you all to know if you ever have questions about my church, feel free to ask me and I'd be happy to answer. Don't mind the tone of this entry, it's aimed at those who made/support that ad, not you. |

Stupid new non-Daylight Savings rule. Someone needs to let the IJ servers know. I hate having the comment timestamps messed up.
Until then, switched my active accounts to a time zone one hour ahead.... just so I can switch them back when the time actually does switch. |

| The McCain-Palin 2008 ticket |
[Oct. 12, 2008|2:29 am] |

That picture cracks me up. And that's basically the theme of this post. Because Palin and McCain make it way too easy to make fun of them. There have been several Sarah Palin interviews where I actually had to close the tab and stop watching because it was so painful.
First up, my absolute favorite: Matt Damon rips Sarah Palin. Best part? He likens her candidacy as VP to the plot of a bad Disney movie -- my favorite part there is you can hear the interviewer start to laugh. Plus, Matt Damon can say nuclear correctly! (Length 1:42)
( Sarah Palin clips and one article )
So enough on Sarah Palin, and onto John McCain. Because he has a couple great ones, though most of his are more scary than funny.

My favorite vid of him ever is this news clip where a reporter asks McCain if he still agrees with his own voting record for not requiring insurance companies to cover birth control, though they cover Viagra. Best part? The look on his face throughout the entire clip, the way he folds his arms, strokes his chin, because he has no clue. And the way his eyes widen at 0:50. It's priceless. It makes me laugh every time. (Length 1:35)
( more John McCain videos and articles )
I think I might possibly somewhat blame/love commiesharefest for making so many politics-oriented posts that gets me going for hours on this stuff. :D No more political videos for me. Must stop watching. I hope you all found that as amusing as I did. Kind of ended on a more serious note, but Palin's too easy to make fun of and McCain's too easy to find hypocritical. |

Apparently LJ and IJ have been wonky with giving notifs today -- IJ not at all, LJ on and off (by giving me individual comments but being wonky on threads I'm tracking). Usually in awhile the problem resolves itself and then you get a bunch of email notifs all at once (and it's weird it's happening with both at once), but until then, if there's anything I haven't responded to and you really want me to, let me know. ...Quite possibly not by commenting here. ;) |

| meme time |
[Aug. 15, 2008|12:39 am] |
I'm working on the fic meme. Promise. (If you haven't already requested something there, feel free to!) At the moment, I'm trying to make job hunting a priority. Until then...
Pick one or more of my characters and one or more of yours, and I'll tell you something they've always wanted to say to your character but could never bring themselves to say out loud.
Sorta like the truth meme, but not entirely and not exactly. Hmm.
Not sure if I want to do the flaws meme, cause 1) I'm not sure if my pups are even being honest with me, and 2) I love them all and have a tendency to love them, flaws and all, and might not really see their flaws for what they are. Heh. |

| Pick-A-Fic meme |
[Jul. 26, 2008|2:08 am] |
Pick one of my characters listed anywhere here and a mood from the list below, and I'll write a short fic for you. I'll make a new list at the bottom with what pups and moods have been claimed (so the list is easier to copy if you want to snag it -- this is more difficult with multiple pups!).
1. If I have more than one version of a muse, or you want an AU or futuristic type thing, you must specify. 2. If you want your muse in the fic, you'll have to request that too since my default is not putting them in or just mentioning them, cause... I'm not good at writing other people's muses. But I can try? :) 3. Erm... don't pick too many? You know how bad I am at finishing memes! ♥
Edit: You can request the same mood more than once as long as it's for a different pup.~ The list applies new to each character.

[Jul. 15, 2008|1:35 am] |
Holy crud I hate Joss Whedon again. In the best of ways, of course. XD
http://www.drhorrible.com
A great short musical-thing with Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion, written and directed by Joss Whedon. It's presented in 3 different Acts each released a a couple days apart. (Thanks to fireflyfans on LJ.)
AND THE MUSIC IS STUCK IN MY HEAD ALREADY. I only watched it once. LOL. And I'm about to go watch it again to get it stuck out of my head.
"It's curtains for you, Dr. Horrible. Lacy, gently wafting curtains."
It seems destiny ends with me saving you... |

| this stupid move brought to you by Amazon.com |

I don't usually crosspost RL stuff over here, but has anyone else heard about this?
Wow is the only word I have. Passing this along from a link in a friend's LJ.
Article was written March 27. Basically, Amazon.com bought a print-on-demand (POD) publisher called BookSurge and is now saying that other POD publishers/printers also have to print through BookSurge, or the "buy" button on the Amazon.com page for those publishers' items will be turned off. And then Amazon tried to lie about it. Really, read the whole article. It's not that long, but fascinating. Any commentary I might make, the author has made much more eloquently.
There's also a collection of links to (so far) 144 other articles about this, as well as a "breaking news" column with short blips to read. I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried.
Here's an update article written April 2. It includes info on Amazon going after traditional publishers as well. And why BookSurge's quality isn't... um, the best. Lovely. |

| veritaserum meme (status: done!) |
[Mar. 23, 2008|11:55 pm] |
Stealing from Krys, and her disclaimer too.
I've given my characters a healthy dose of Veritaserum and now they have to tell the truth. What does this mean for you? Ask my characters questions about anything and everything and they will truthfully answer it.
You can't bring this info into any games. But feel free to ask as many questions as you want. Watch as my kids scatter to the four winds. ;) If you need a reminder as to who they are, here you go.
Ah ha! I thought for some reason we'd done something like this before. XD |

I guess you could pick more than one, just keep in mind I have trouble finishing memes. ;)
Pick one of my characters and I'll answer the following questions:
What are five ideas/concepts/etc. you keep in mind while writing your character that you believe are essential to accurately depicting them? Why did you choose them? How do they relate to the character’s over all persona? |

Harry doesn't react well to talks or mentions of physical violence, even joking ones (and even ones in meta). This should be kept in mind. Nor to being cussed at or yelled at. All of it reminds him of Vernon and he's likely to either shut down in the middle of a conversation or get angry and lash out. Just saying.

| character questions meme (status: done!) |
[Mar. 1, 2008|1:10 pm] |
Pick as many characters of mine as you want (well, okay, maybe limit to 3?) to answer all the questions.
1. What would your character kill for? What would they die for? 2. What would they refuse to do under any circumstances? Why? 3. What do they dream about? [Either literal or figurative]. 4. What’s their biggest fear? 5. What single object would they be most hard pressed to part with? Why? 6. What is their fondest memory? 7. What is their worst memory? 8. What or who was their most significant influence? Expound. 9. What do they believe makes a successful life? 10. What makes them laugh? 11. What are their religious views? 12. What is their greatest strength? 13. Do they have a fatal flaw? If so, what is it? 14. Who is the most important person in their life? 15. If they died or went missing, who would miss them most? 16. How would they describe themselves? 17. How would others describe them?
(No, I haven't forgotten about the letter meme. Or the drabble meme on GJ. I'm just slow. ♥) |

These end credits to this game? Awesome. You gotta be sure to watch it -- though the words are typed out when the song starts, there's extra things typed that she doesn't sing. It's sung so cheerfully and cute. Hee.
No, I would never procrastinate further on a paper when it's already almost 2 a.m. Me? Never. |

| letter meme |
[Jan. 31, 2008|6:30 pm] |
Oops. Fell asleep and never posted this last night. Please please please reply? Please? With a cherry on top? And whipped cream?
Here's what you give me : - one of my characters - another character played by you or me or anyone else
Here's what I'll give you : - a letter of some sort written to that character
You can choose a love letter, an advice with how to deal with another person, a venting letter about another character, whatever. If you want something written about a third character you will have to name that individual.
The more specific, the better. Srsly. I do better with specifics. And snagging Jack's idea and you can choose an 'alternate' version of a pup of mine, if you want. Clicky for my pups, if you're not sure who I play. |

| character PB meme (status: done!) |
[Jan. 23, 2008|6:22 pm] |
So I am weak. And bored. And not feeling well. This causes me to want to do memes I shouldn't normally like because I hate icon hunting, but.
You give me any character or characters that I have played (past or present) and I will give you 1-3 links or images of alternate Played-Bys for the character. I might even explain the choice(s). |

| new home sweet home |
[Jan. 10, 2008|7:55 pm] |
First post ever in this journal, right? Okay. Yay for a new journal name!
I still have a crapload of stuff to do. Not just online, but especially in RL. *lays head down* School is kinda killing me and it's only the first week. I'm really, really not adjusting well to being back in school full time. It makes me want to whimper. ...I think I just did. So I'm going to most likely be a bit slower/less active with rp than I have been in the past, and slower/less active than I'd like.
Also, Brodin, you are pretty dang lucky that you finally let me pick a new journal name for you. Cause I was 5 seconds away from signing you up with just your name again. Stupid man.
Not sure if I'm going to do a meta comm here or not. Still thinking about it. Right now I need to focus on setting up journals the way I like them (all 18 of them) and redoing/getting more/uploading icons and tedious maintenance stuff like that. That is, when I'm not doing school/RL stuff. *goes to hide*
Edit: Update on changed pup names and who I'm keeping (pretty much everyone) is here: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/utr_ooc/491.html?thread=17131#t17131 |
